My first post...

Well I gotta start somewhere so why not with a bit about me. I have an odd fascination with cinema, it started when I young and has grown into a hobby. I don't have a genre that I dislike, although I do avoid some movies for various reasons.

I have been watching genre shows for nearly twenty years and have marveled at how much better they have gotten. After Star Trek was reborn in the late eighties with The Next Generation I truly became a fan. But as time moved along I found my interest in the show fading as new and more exciting shows came into existence. Babylon 5 made me realize that episodic television was simply lacking and have tried to devote my fandom to shows that actually take the time to grow and evolve.

But my first love is still movies, and I still can't quite explain why. It would seem that a series with nearly unlimited time to unfold a story would be far more appealing to me then a two hour presentation of Hollywood money. But despite popular opinion about the quality of films, especially in the last few years, I have seen some of my all time favorites emerge. It seems as though the problem with movies today is the fear of risk. Formula and established franchises are re-emerging as a staple of the blockbuster months, instead of daring new ideas. I read an article the other day that mentioned nearly a dozen sequels coming out next year... most of which I will go to see. But that seems like a really bad joke that just doesn't have a punch line.

Now if I had to list my favorite shows and movies it would be far too long to relate. I have strived to embrace all genres and try not to judge anything harshly. But everyone has things that irk them, and I do get frustrated from time to time. I will try to create a positive source of opinion on current movies and shows. But no promises.
